Signing a PDF online means completing it in a browser instead of printing, signing on paper and scanning it back. There are two situations: someone sent you a document to sign, or you have a PDF you need to sign yourself. Both take a couple of minutes.
If someone sent you a document to sign
- Open the email and follow your personal signing link. The link belongs to you alone — do not forward it.
- Confirm that you agree to sign electronically. This consent is part of what makes an electronic record dependable later.
- Work through the highlighted fields. Signature and initial fields let you type your name, draw with a finger or mouse, or upload an image of your signature. Date, name and text fields are filled in normally.
- Submit. Required fields must be complete first. Once you finish, the sender is notified and you can download your copy.
You do not need an account, a plug-in or a desktop app. Signing works on a phone as well as a laptop.
If you need to sign your own PDF
- Create a free Sign10X account. The free plan sends five envelopes a month and needs no credit card.
- Upload the PDF. Sign10X reads each page and suggests where fields probably belong.
- Add yourself as the recipient — or add the other party too if they also need to sign.
- Place a signature field where your signature goes, plus a date field if the document needs one, and mark them required.
- Send it. If you are the only signer, you can complete it immediately and download the finished PDF with its audit trail.
What you get at the end
The completed file is a normal PDF with every signature, date and text value stamped in position, so anyone can open it. Alongside it, Sign10X keeps a timestamped trail of when the document was sent, delivered, opened and signed. That record is what you fall back on if someone later questions whether the document was really signed.
Common questions
Is signing a PDF online free?
With Sign10X, yes — the free e-signature plan covers five envelopes per month, and recipients never pay anything.
Is a PDF signed online legally valid?
In the United States, electronic signatures are generally recognised for most business agreements under the federal ESIGN Act and state UETA adoptions, as long as the signer consented and the record can be kept and reproduced. Certain document types have additional requirements, so confirm your specific case with qualified counsel.
Can I reuse the same document next time?
Yes. Save it as a template with the fields already positioned, or start from the Sign10X template library.
This guide is general information about electronic signing, not legal advice. Sign10X is not a law firm — check requirements for your document type with qualified counsel.
